From the moment I started reading this story, I had to wonder how many times I had spoken with the author about my own experiences in marriage. Then I realized, I never had. She captured the loneliness of being married to a hard working man perfectly and the stress that could put on a newly wed couple. Afte that, I was hooked. Any writer who can capture the hidden pain of any person is worth reading again and again.
The journey this couple went on in battling negative people and dangerous situations was beautifully written and flowed wonderfully from one event to the next.

Finding Courage Love Compass Book 3 edition by Melanie D Snitker Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

From the first page to the last, it was impossible to put this book down. Sadly, it had to end and I kept wanting it to go on. I have known families like the McNeils. The damage one person can do to a family is heartbreaking. It took more than courage for this young couple to break the cycle; it took a very strong faith in God and one another. Very well written and the problem handled very well. Would recommend this book to all age groups.
Good story. I had not read the earlier books in this series but it did not matter. This can be read as a stand a lone book. Entertaining, clean read. I enjoyed it and would recommend.
Avalon and Duke married hastily, and Avalon left home for a few weeks after their first major argument; now she's back, and they need to work out how to truly make a marriage work in the face of many challenges.

(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)

Plot and Setting 5 -- Plot has many unique elements, no major holes, and a sense of focus. I really enjoyed that this wasn't the typical romance, ending in a sudden engagement or wedding; instead, we see the results of a TOO sudden wedding, and the challenges of being married, compounded by Duke's VERY difficult family and the weird happenings around the farm. Setting is clear, believable, and consistent. I learned new things about fall/winter weather in Arizona, and about the mechanics of lettuce farming.

Characters 4 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and dynamic. Both Avalon and Duke are working through the challenges of being married, and both make big strides in understanding themselves and each other. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. We never really understand why Duke's mother is such a bitter, mean person, which makes her seem a bit unreal. Definite strong points in the relationships between characters. Avalon's family relationships seem strong and healthy, from the pieces we see here. Duke and Avalon come out of their struggles with a much more solid marriage than they began with.

Mechanics and Writing 5 -- Few, if any, typos or word errors. I did notice that Daisy Belle's Diner (mentioned in the first books) is called Gracie Belle's Diner in this one. Intelligent use of alternating POV (Avalon and Duke). Skillful writing that adds to the story.

Redeeming Value 5 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Avalon and Duke realize how little they knew about each other and their family backgrounds when they got married, and are now each committed to getting to know each other and making their marriage work. They each start to focus on things they can change about themselves rather than mistakes the other makes. Sex, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. Or actually, sex is shown to be a positive aspect of a healthy marriage relationship. Duke and Avalon spend a few weeks sleeping apart to really get to know each other without distractions. Again, for all they pray, read the Bible, etc, they never mention going to church, and in fact do other things on Sundays.

Personal Enjoyment 4 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining, with perhaps an issue or two that tempered my pleasure. I’d enjoy reading it again.
This is actually a pretty good writer . . . but she definitely needs to stretch her wings of imagination and create stories with more heft to them. This tale is woefully thin and Pollyanna-ish to boot. I confess to being a male reader invading a largely female literary world, but this book has all the earmarks of a rather shallow romance novel the flushed cheeks, his lips covering hers, the tingle that is felt all the way down to a blushing girl’s toes, the endless wearying descriptions of what color a person’s eyes are, etc.

In terms of the Christian content (which I embrace), this story’s fairly good. It’s not preachy; the God parts are okay. But, as in too many inspirational novels, there’s an element of trying too hard to be really, really cheerful. People incessantly chuckle and wink at each other; “his lips bowed in a smile.” There’s just too much faux joviality blended in with the angst.

One advantage this book does enjoy is its unique niche here’s a romance novel about a married couple trying to reconnect. Not a bad idea, and this writer does show promising talent. Next time a deeper story, semicolons where they’re needed, and less cheese.
This was a fairly well written book. I had a difficult time, however, understanding the motives of the H's family--his mother was vindictive to the point of being mentally ill. Duke's brother was a surly young man totally influenced by the mother, and his father was a helpless soul. I guess there are such dysfunctional families, but I had a difficult time understanding how Duke could have turned out to be such an honorable and upright character. That said, however, the story was not a run-of-the-mill romance. I will look forward to more books by this author.
I liked reading the book. The only issue I had was where does Duke get off holding it against her for so long (most of the book) that she left. She had reason to leave and she went to her family. It was less than 3 weeks and not like it was 3 months of carousing and going out on the town. And she left b/c he was never there for her and his mother was not a nice person to her or anyone else for that matter...so why couldn't he just forgive and welcome her back with open arms...bc he was a jerk...no just kidding. I don't want to give the whole book away. But I”m glad it ended the way it did.
From the moment I started reading this story, I had to wonder how many times I had spoken with the author about my own experiences in marriage. Then I realized, I never had. She captured the loneliness of being married to a hard working man perfectly and the stress that could put on a newly wed couple. Afte that, I was hooked.
