I read this book many years ago. I absolutely loved it. Loved learning about the Blackfoot Indian world. Was horrified at the awful woman Atsitsi sp who Maria had to share lodging with. Was very taken with the love story between Nakoa and Maria.
Now after 40ish years, reading it through much older and more mature eyes and experience i was a little disappointed, but not sure why. I thought the ending was cheesy, and it seemed convoluted and confusing as to whether Maria was dreaming, having a vision, or reality.
I'm glad i read it again tho. With experience it's astonishing how different things feel.

I never thought I would have read a book set back in the 1800s, and loved it. It was such a welcome change from what I usually read. I liked how the relationship developed between the two leads and it didn't feel rushed to me. The two (sort of) love triangles kept me wondering who was going to end up with whom. This is a book I will buy and add to my growing home library, so I can read it again.
I read Gayle Roger's "The Second Kiss" several years ago. The imagery was so vivid I was transported into another time and place. The story was rich with historical detail. I felt I was getting a lesson in native American culture while being intimately engaged with the characters. The mystical undertones throughout the book got me deeply involved in this timeless romance.
This book has everything - romance, suspense, passion, spirituality, adventure and heroism. Everybody I know who has read this book has loved it, both men and women.
I have tried to get copies for myself as well as for gifts. I've paid for out-of-print book searches to no avail. There were 12 printings of this best-seller. Where are they? And why is out of print?
This story has haunted me for years. I first read this book with the title Nakoas woman and of all the hundreds of books since this always stood out in my memory. I love the Indian culture and history. Gayle Rogers keeps secrets in her book well, YEAR after YEAR you look for the sequel. She makes you dream and wonder about NAKOA and his woman Maria, their life, love, their children and their future. Anyone who loves Indian culture their history and true love will remember this book and want an answer to the END or FUTURE of NAKOA ,MAYBE YOU CAN FIND IT IN SECOND KISS I DID NOT, however it is still a great read , I think that's why it was so haunting all these years their future lies in your own heart whoever you may be.

I was extremely disappointed when the book arrived and I started to read it only to find out it was exactly the same book I had just read " Nakoa"s Woman" I did not know that authors are allowed to release the same book under different titles. So, "The Second Kiss" is just "Nakoa's Woman", with a different title. I consider that a money-grabbing stunt by the author, and I cannot express adequately how angry that makes me. Now I guess I won't be able to order books from any longer because I will have no way of knowing if the book I want is one I've already read, under another name. I know there is nothing that can be done about this, not in our money-hungry world. And the loss of my business, tiny as it is, won't mean anything to . But I've learned a good lesson. Never buy anything unless you can hold it in your hand and examine it first.
I love this book. The research on the native american culture is skillfully woven into an intense, realistic romance story. Much insight on life, love, and death. Many side plots and characters who help tell it.

I read this about 40 years ago and it was one of my favorites then. For some reason I remembered the authors name and book title and decided to read it again. Not disappointed.... Actually I wrote that before I read the kindle edition which is full of typos. Some pages have the page numbers in the middle of the page and other pages have words so messed up it is impossible to decipher them. The book is still a nice read but the kindle edition is horrible. Wish I could get my money back from !!!
